While we welcome large families, our geyser means you might have to be careful with the water if all of you are to get a shower. We suggest no more than 3 adults with any number of children.
3 zones
MADADENI B&B is seperated into 3 zones: UPPER EARTH where the owners live with their dogs MIDDLE EARTH: You will be here, with the 3 (4) CATS: Red, Mango, Charcole and the SCARY CAT from the forest LOWER EARTH: This is in the forest where the ducks, Geese and wildlife have free range. Local birds include the fork tailed drongo, you will head them in the late afternoon, sitting above your entrance door. A morning bird if the crowned hornbills, with their wonderful baby crying sounds. When you walk in the forest you might be lucky to hear, or even see, a ground scraper thrush. There are fences between all the 3 areas, allowing all to live in harmony.
The swimming pool
The pool overlooks the forest, allowing you to engage in bird watching while you relax at the waters edge. The pool is a SALT WATER POOL, allowing you to enjoy the clean water and prepare you for the wonderful INDIAN OCEAN just around the corner. Your hosts strongly recommend a swim before breakfast to get you ready for the day ahead. When it gets warm late in the summer nights, there is not much better than a skinny dip before bed!
Main bedroom
This bedroom is deep under the house, cool and sheltered from the Durban Heat. This is a large room with bed lights, flowers from the garden (in season), a multi-plug to charge your cell phone and a dressing table. The morning light falls on to the trees and garden plants, giving you a great wake up call. These shelter you from the noise of Kloof Falls Rd, made up of the local geese, Purple Crested lourie and Crowned Hornbill (Crying Babies). It has a double bed, many shelves and hanging space. It is next to the small shower / bathroom. One of the most picturesque drives in the world is just 45km from Durban, known as the Valley of a Thousand Hills. It is in these hills where Zulu people still live in their traditional huts, the views are breathtaking - to be savoured slowly. It is halfway between Durban and Pietermaritzburg - half an hour. It comprises an arts and crafts route, cultural / rural villages and Zulu crafts, safari park, raptor displays; nature reserves and waterfalls abound; magical views and many restaurants. The KwaZulu coast sees the incredible annual migration of sardines. Shoals of sardines can be seen in their feeding frenzy as they move from the Natal South Coast to Mozambique. The sardine run is always followed by dolphins, sharks and game fish, and brave deep sea divers. The glorious Dolphin Coast stretches from Umhlanga Rocks, north of Durban, to the mouth of the Tugela River. The area boasts wide beaches and the warm ocean is the perfect playground for dolphins and tourists alike. The main holiday resorts consist of Ballito, Salt Rock and Umhlanga Rocks - all three offer five star hotels, however, self-catering accommodation is a firm favourite amongst local holidaymakers.
Smaller bedroom
This is the smaller bedroom, as you walk in it is on the right, just opposite the kitchen. It is close to the ducks and geese to if you sleep here, you could wake early! There is a bedside lamp, a towel rack, lot's of hanging space and a few shelves to place your kit. The ability to stay almost on the comrades route, about 1/3 from Durban and 2/3 from PMB, gives you a huge advantage. It is perfect to arrive a few days early and get to know the route. MADADENI B&B is perfectly placed for all your supporters to be well placed to help you through the day.
The local area
MADADENI B&B gives you the flexibility to come and go as required, a central base from which to explore the multiple attraction in the Durban and KZN area. You have a fridge, stove, washing machine, TV, always on Internet access (with PC) and security system which automatically closes the gate behind you. When you arrive you will be given an access code which will allow you past the palidade fence, into your safe and secure garden cottage. KwaZulu-Natal is quite possibly one of the most exciting places to visit in South Africa. This is due to the fantastic scenery of the Drakensberg mountains, the rolling hills of 1000 Hills, the breathtaking beauty of of the magnificent sand dunes of St Lucia, the sun-blessed beaches of the Indian Oceans' East Coast, migrating whales and frolicking dolphins which scatter the shore line, and importantly, the home of the Zulu Empire. KwaZulu-Natal offers a traveller the opportunity to endulge in Africa in one Province. The cultural heritage of KwaZulu-Natal includes some of the oldest rock art in the world and painted by the most elusive of characters, the Bushmen. From mountain excursions, following the Big Five in a game vehicle to golfing on an inviting and warm coastline where scuba diving is a definite must, KwaZulu-Natal has it all, and all can be found through Restinations.
