Situated amongst high vineyards, olive groves and almond trees, the villa has one of the most spectacular views in the Douro valley and is in a remote and tranquil setting. The house dates from the 17th Century and was restored to the highest standard in 1992 with many original features being retained. Accommodation consists of double sitting room, with carved and painted ceilings, dining room, three double bedrooms all with en-suite facilities and a large fully equipped kitchen, including washing machine, fridge, freezer and dishwasher. The swimming pool (4m x 12m) looks over the Douro Valley and is surrounded by terraces on one of which there is a barbeque. Sun loungers, outside tables and chairs are provided. There is a small garden on one of the terraces which contains a fountain made from an old olive press and there is an outdoor shaded eating area with fabulous views of the Douro valley stretching below. The property is only accessible by a kilometer of unpaved road, this road is narrow with a vertical drop on one side. The nearest shopping is in Pinh„o about 20mins drive. It is the centre of the surrounding port district and has a supermarket, butcher, baker, greengrocer, chemist , bank etc. There are a number of restaurants, bars and cafes but apart from the "festas" there is no night life. More extensive shopping is available in Vila Real (40 mins) and Alijo (30 mins) where there is a good hypermarket. A car is necessary for this house. The nearest major airport is at Porto. Transport from there to the villa is possible by train, with stunning views as the train meanders up the Douro valley. Travel time by train is about 31/2 hours and about 2 hrs by car. The surrounding countryside is mountainous and is one of the most attractive and least spoilt areas of Europe. All guests can be given a guided tour of the wine and port making facilities.
