Villa Tranquilo is your mountain retreat situated in the heart of the Spanish countryside where the only noises you should hear are the birds singing.

We are located just outside the small town of Albatera and only 25 minutes drive away from golden sandy beaches. We have the mountains on our doorstep if you enjoy walking or bird watching and there are always photo opportunities with great sunrises, sunsets and an abundance of flora and fauna. We are even fortunate enough to have many golf courses within a 40 minute drive.

Albatera is a town and municipality located in the comarca of Vega Baja del Segura, in the province of Alicante, part of Valencia (autonomous community), Spain.

Albatera has an area of 66.5 km2 and, according to the 2003 census, a total population of 9,362 inhabitants. The economy of Albatera is mainly based on trade and agriculture. The most important monument in the city is the baroque Catholic church of Santiago Apóstol, built in 1727.

Albatera has 6 squares/plazas and sitting in one of the cafes in the main one is a great way to watch the world go by and study the people. It is a general meeting place for the Spanish people and late into the evening the children play together while the rest of the family - parents/grandparents etc. sip a drink or two.

Santa pola

The small commercial fishing port of Santa Pola is about 25 minutes away together with its lovely broad sandy beaches.

If you are there at the right time the kiosks will be open where you can buy fresh fish that has been landed that day.

Also, if you are there early enough you can park right next to the beach (no parking charges here) and have a wonderful day.

Many Spanish bars and cafes open early in the morning and it is not unusual to see the Spanish workers having a small coffee accompanied by a beer or even a short.

Tostada (half a baguette toasted) is often eaten as a snack with lashings of olive oil and salt.

Spanish Tapas
If you like Spanish food there are plenty of Tapas bars and restaurants nearby as well as Chinese and Indian food.

For those wanting to be a bit more adventurous there is even a restaurant where you may sample Zebra and Ostridge etc.

As you might expect fish is the main speciality nearer the coast.

Most restaurants offer "La menu del dia" (The menu of the day) - choose this, and you can often get 3 courses including wine for under 7 euros!

Spanish Restaurants usually don’t open until 7.30pm though Indian and Chinese restaurants often open at 6pm. Just because a restaurant is quiet or empty it doesn’t mean that it is not a good restaurant. As the Spanish people don’t usually eat until 9 or 10pm you will find that you rarely have to book a table. Popular restaurants may still be serving food after midnight.

Every restaurant by law has to offer a “Menu del Dia” (menu of the day) and these meals are exceptionally good value. They will usually be 3 courses and include a drink.
