Self-catering holiday Villa Latona is a short walk from Uzumlu village which relies on agriculture and traditional crafts. Fields of cotton, sesame, aniseed, barley and summer vegetables surround the village while on the mountain slopes apples, pomegranates, almonds, pears and olives are grown.
Wandering through the small lanes you can see women weaving cotton on pedal looms in front of their houses. There are restaurants and wine bars offering local wines and good food. Above the village, at 900m, is the ancient Roman/Lycian city of Cadianda which can be reached in about 15 minutes and is well worth a visit for the fascinating archaeology.
The port of Fethiye is 17km away and can be reached by the Dolmus minibuses or is an easy 25 minute drive. Go paragliding at Olu Deniz with its sandy beaches in a Blue Lagoon which is a short distance from Fethiye. Nearby lively Hisaronu has an active night-life with bars, clubs and restaurants and leads onto Kaya Koy ghost village which was deserted after the population exchanges and is the basis of 'Birds Without Wings' by Louis de Bernieres. Patara Beach is one hour away, on the road to Kas and Kalkan, with a 20km unspoilt sandy beach, Lycian tombs and Roman ruins.
Nearer to the holiday villa, about a 20 minute drive, is Calis Beach with a long shingle beach and many bars, restaurants, clubs and a water park. Another 20 minutes will take you to the upmarket Gocek marina which is just off the main road towards Dalaman Airport.
